About O’Neal
O’Neal Crawford believes in crafting outdoor spaces that are artfully woven together—balancing the desires of each client with the architectural language of the built environment and the quiet rhythms of nature.
Trained in landscape architecture at Auburn University, O’Neal draws on a deep appreciation for place, shaped by her travels and refined through study under accomplished garden designers. Each landscape is carefully shaped into something both thoughtfuland enduring, where timeless design meetseveryday livability.
When O'Neal is not creating in her Birmingham based studio or on site, you will find her training for an endurance race or on an adventure with her husband Dudley and her gaggle of dogs.
The Process
Each design project begins with listening and observing: understanding the desires of the client and how a space will be used, hearing about any problems that need to be addressed, observing how the space connects to its surroundings, and how it can evolve over time.
From this discovery session, a design proposal is created that is tailored to the specific needs of the client and the unique qualities of the site.
Discovery
Through a collaborative and thoughtful process, each design is created to respond to the surrounding built and natural environments and aligned with the clients desires. O’Neal layers detail, materiality, and planting to bring depth and clarity to the plan. The result is a design that becomes something both refined and approachable—rooted in place and built to endure.
Concept Development
At the heart of each project is collaboration. O’Neal works closely with craftsmen, architects, interior designers, engineers, and horticulturists in a shared process that ensures every detail is considered and seamlessly integrated. By staying engaged throughout the implementation process, each landscape is brought to life with precision, cohesion, and lasting intention.
